| Gareth LLoyd - Sep 25, 2008 - 8:20:21 Cardiff [Wales] I visited Cardigan Castle about three years ago with my university and was lucky to be given a detailed guided tour of the inside of castle green house, I was amazed by the amount of personal items stil inside. Have these been removed as it would be a shame for them to be lost or damaged? Gareth Lloyd |
| Peter Purton - Aug 27, 2008 - 12:43:49 As a student of medieval castles I am delighted that you are working to conserve Cardigan; it is quite difficult to establish what can now be seen by a visitor and when the place is open for visiting - can you please provide this information as I would love to travel down and visit the castle. Thanks and best wishes. Reply sent to Peter: Dear Peter Thank you for your interest in Cardigan Castle. We are open on Saturdays until the beginning of September between 10 am and 4 pm unless it is raining heavily. Opening dates and times will be posted on our website early next year. The remains of three medieval towers and parts of the walls remain visible. One of the towers houses garderobes and the early 19th century mansion is built into the Great North Tower. The house was built on top of medieval remains which formed its basement but unfortunately this is not now accessible to the public because of the unsafe condition of the house. If there is anything more you would like to know about the Castle's history or plans for the future please contact us again or visit the links on our website. We hope to see you soon. | Richard Pugh - Jul 30, 2008 - 12:43:49 I visited Cardigan on Monday July 28 but found the castle closed. Could you tell me on what days it is open to the public ? Sincerely Richard Pugh Reply sent to Richard: Dear Richard Thank you for your interest in Cardigan Castle. We are open on Saturdays until the beginning of September between 10 am and 4 pm, unless it is raining heavily. Opening of the site depends on a small band of enthusiasts who man the gate on Saturdays from Easter to September and work in the grounds to keep it tidy and accessible to the public and we expect this to continue until work on the restoration proper begins. As we increase our numbers it may be possible to open on Sundays as well at some time in the future. We hope you will be able to return to Cardigan and visit us again soon.
